How to play with your dog with a clear start and end
Clear start and end so play doesn’t finish in nips or jumps.
- 1
Start signal. Bring out the toy and say “let’s play.” Play starts with permission, not with a jump.
- 2
Pause if they get overexcited. If they mouth hands or bark out of control, hold the toy up for 10 seconds. Calm → resume.
- 3
End signal. “All done” + put the toy away. That way they understand there’s a closing, not an abrupt cut-off.
